Policy

A. From time to time, special service requests are made of our staff which are outside of our expertise. Our marina has a list of professional experts who, on occasion, we call upon to provide their services at our facility.

We require a Master Service Agreement (MSA) to be completed with any outside contractor who may be doing work on any boats stored on our property. Access to our property will not be available to contractors without an MSA. This agreement will ensure the following:

  1. Security – Providing us with the identity of all people with access to our yard.

  2. Quality – To ensure that all work is done by licensed mechanics and fully qualified personnel.

  3. Liability – That there is adequate insurance coverage to protect all our customers boats and accessories.

  4. Workers Compensation - Contractors must be registered with WCB/Nova Scotia

  5. Safety – To insure that all precautions are taken to prevent any damage or danger to boats or clients and guests.

  6. Costs – A fee to cover the costs of the use of services provided by the Marina ie:, power / water, ground maintenance, washrooms, parking area and other common area costs.

B. Water and power has been made accessible to most of the yard.  The use of the power is intended to provide service for maintenance only and not for the long-term use of items such as heaters, chargers, etc. Any use other than this must be arranged and approved by the office, and additional charges will apply. This will ensure proper cords and outlets are used for the particular equipment, thus eliminating the concerns of circuit overload which could cause circuit failure and pose a potential fire threat. Any unauthorized use of the supplied power will result in our staff disconnecting service without notice.

C. Haul-out, launching and storage.

In order to ensure the safe and proper handling of our customer’s boats, we require adequate time to install and remove our dock and mooring systems each spring and fall. There will be no launching prior to April 15th unless the boat is to be removed immediately from the marina upon launch. Staff will be busy with the dock setup and we will require a minimum of a one month notice to launch prior to that date. Haul-out must be completed by November 15th in order to give us adequate time to winterize. Storage at the Marina is intended for seasonal use of boaters and not as a long term storage facility. We require that, unless there are special circumstances, authorized by the office, all boats be removed during the boating season.  Our storage seasons are December 1st - May 31st and June 1st - November 30.

D. Service work. All service work including haul and launch must be entered on a work order and properly authorized by the customer. Any one of the following methods is acceptable:

  1. Signature on original completed work order.

  2. An e-mail from the customer including details of work.

  3. A faxed copy of the work order signed by the customer.

There are to be no exceptions to this to ensure our customers are getting the exact services they required. Payment for all services is due on receipt of invoice, exceptions must be pre-arranged with the office and receive management approval.

To ensure safety and compliance with our insurance policies, customers are not permitted within the working dock area during the servicing of boats including, but not limited to, haul, launch and mast stepping.

F. Shrink wrap. All clients are responsible to remove any debris and wrap material from the property unless arrangements for removal has been made with the office.  Customers are requested to report deficiencies in shrinkwrap when noticed and marina staff can provide repairs at a cost if requested.  Shining Waters Marine is not responsible to damages caused to vessels due to loose and/or torn shrinkwrap.  Although good protection for your boat, shrinkwrap cannot be warrantied due to damage caused by very high windage and/or snow/ice build-up.  Shrinkwrap is not intended for long term usage as the material stretches and rots over time

G. Waterfront and dock usage. The docks and waterfront are provided for the exclusive use of those clients renting docking space. Anyone wishing to bring their vessel to a guest dock for service, boarding guests, visiting the marina or otherwise may do so provided they have pre-registered with the dock office.

H. Hazardous waste removal. We have installed an oil recycling tank at the marina. All used oil must be put in the tank or removed from property. Other chemicals such as anti-freeze, propane cylinders, paint cans etc. must be put in approved bins or removed from property.

I. Pump-out of waste. Overboard pumping of waste from holding tank or directly from head is not permitted in the mooring field area, docking or within 1km of marina waterfront. Arrangements should be made with the office for use of our pump out station

J. Mooring and Dockage.  Although every attempt is made by Shining Waters Marine to ensure safe mooring and docking, customers are requested to pratice diligence when tying their boat to docks or moorings.  Bridles are provided on all moorings for customer use, however customers are responsible to check them through the season for chafing, wrapping, etc..  Shining Waters Marine is not responsible for damage occuring to boats which become detached from our docks or moorings, or to damages to adjacent property caused by the same.
